"Authors were understandably delighted not just to have their titles published by Faber & Faber, but adorned with a Wolpe jacket. Many of the great writers, and particularly those published in the 1950s and 1960s -Auden, Eliot, Larkin, Hughs, Golding, Plath and Beckett among others- came to be defined (and reputations enhanced) by Wolpe's authoritive calligraphic lettering and by the emphatic presence of Albertus, often referred to as 'Faber lettering'. In Wolpe's hands, Albertus was capable of infinite flexibility and expressiveness."
