"Many of the jackets were entirely hand-painted -swiftly, often within an hour, and never altered or scraped- and in them one can well see the flourish of Wolpe's wrist, the artistry of his full intention. He was inconsistent in how the publisher was to be credited. Unusually for the time, there was no colophon, and so sometimes we have simply 'Faber', sometimes 'Faber and Faber' -the correct application, although he often used an ampersand instead- and sometimes just 'F&F'; it entirely depended upon which of the would sit most happily with the design in question. Inconsistent to in wether or not he signed the images: some bear the initials B.L.W. on the actual design, others not."
