Albertus: series 481. Monotype Corporation, 1935
"Albertus is based on bronze inscriptional lettering cut by Berthold Wolpe (1905-89), a German engraver, calligrapher, type designer, book designer and illustrator. Stanley Morison, typographic adviser to the British Monotype Corporation, greatly admired Wolpe's work and suggested that he should convert his lettering into a typeface. Dissatisfied with his initial attempts to reconstruct the letterforms, Wolpe reverted to taking direct rubbings of the original inscriptional capitals, resulting in an extreely successful typeface that was issued by Monotype in 1935 (..) Koch's influence is evident in the design of Albertus as a type deeply rooted in the humanist tradition of classical letterforms but also showing a strong connection to the sans serif."
