"Authors were understandably delighted to have their titles not just published by Faber, but adorned with Wolpe's jackets. Not all of them were always quite so pleased, however, as is demonstrated by a rather amusing correspondence between Wolpe and one of Faber's top writers of the 1950s, Lawrence Durrell, concerning the treatment of the first volume of The Alexandria Quartet, and what was to become one of the house's best known and most iconic jackets, Justine -the famous handprint rumoured to have been that of one of Wolpe's children."
