“With his book designs for the Bücherkreis, Jan Tschichold gives the books a modern identity without the ornamental look of past publications. It is a nondescript appearance, seemingly plain, but it is actually well thought out, simple and clearly structured. He applies the principles laid out in Die Neue Typographie to the jacket only. For the inside he uses a reader-friendly, legible typography which is not at all far removed from his later, more classic typographic style”.
