“One of the most prestigious commissions in the early 90s was to design a postage stamp. I was asked to design four stamps in the series Nature & Environment and the topic was Dutch Butterflies. As I had just made the Floriaded flower phonecards I wanted to reject the request. Or I had to come up with a good concept! The idea is super simple -I show extinct, endangered and fairly common species. And it was the first time that sex was shown on a stamp.”
